Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport is excited to kick off the summer travel season. With increases in flight capacity and a higher volume of passengers expected, ROA has gathered its top travel tips to help passengers have a smooth travel experience.

Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Locate Parking, Check Bags, and Clear Security

We recommend arriving two hours before your flight. While the parking lot enhancement project is nearing completion, parking impacts are possible. When you arrive at ROA, follow signage to available parking. Questions may be directed to the parking team at 540-362-1999, ext. 239.

Start by Packing an Empty Bag

Unzip every compartment and know what's in your carry-on before arriving at the airport to avoid any delays at the checkpoint. Liquids, aerosols, gels, and creams are allowed in carry-on bags as long as each item is 3.4 ounces or less and placed in one quart-sized bag.

Check to See If You Have a REAL ID

As of May 7, 2025, all airline passengers 18 years and older, including TSA PreCheck members, must present REAL ID-compliant identification or another acceptable ID, such as a passport, at TSA security checkpoints.

Download Your Airline's Mobile App

Your airline's mobile app will offer the most up-to-date flight information. YOu can also track your checked luggage, learn how to navigate through your connecting airport, and more.

Request Wheelchair Assistance in Advance with Your Airline

Wheelchair requests can be made upon booking, in your airline's mobile app under your reservation, or by calling your airline.

Avoid Idling at the Curb If Picking Up a Traveler

All parking lots are free for the first 30 minutes. Ask the traveler to give you a call when they have retrieved their bags. Only active loading and unloading is permissible in front of the terminal.

Thank you for flying ROA!
